Kaila Devi Temple is located around 23 km from Karauli town in Karauli district. The temple is devoted to the goddess Kaila Devi. It is considered to be one of the 9 Shaktipithas of Goddess Durga. Shri Bhompalji, the king of Karauli, is believed to have received instructions from Goddess Kaila Devi to build the temple for her as he was a great devotee of Kaila Devi. He constructed this temple in 1600 AD. In the sanctum, there are two idols. The deities are very old and made of stone. It is a good example of medieval architecture. The shikhar of the temple is very high like a pyramid. There is an open court and a prayer hall. The walls and pillars are decorated with ornamental work. The temple stands on a rocky elevation, so the shikhar can be viewed from a distance. The mela held here is regarded as one of the biggest in North India. Every year a large number of people visit this temple.
