 Introduction:
The city of Pushkar is located in the state of Rajasthan in India. Pushkar is positioned at a distance of 14 kilometers from the district of Ajmer, and is considered as one of the 5 sacred dhams, or spots of pilgrimage for the Hindus. The sacred city of Pushkar is also known as the King of Pilgrimage Sites or 'Tirth Raj'. The town of Pushkar is a major tourist attraction and the place is crowded by tourists all over the year from many places of the country and other places of the world.
The city of Pushkar is placed on the shore of the Pushkar Lake. The small town of Pushkar has 5 major temples and numerous smaller temples. There are 52 ghats on the shores of the Pushkar Lake, where the pilgrims descend to take a holy dip in the sacred waters.
According to the Hindu mythology, it is believed that the Gods released a swan with a lotus in its beak and they let it fall on the earth where Lord Brahma was believed to execute a yagna. The spot where the lotus fell was named as Pushkar.
About Mahadeva Temple:
An extremely important temple of the town of Pushkar is the 12th century Mahadeva Temple. The Mahadeva Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Mahadeva temple was constructed in the 19th century. The five-faced statue of Mahadeva is made up completely of white marble. This Hindu temple of Lord Shiva is significant for its grace of structure, and is possibly the supreme of all temples in and around the town of Ajmer and Pushkar.
