A mosque or a masjid is a worship place for Islam followers. Masjid is the Arabic name for a mosque. In English, the word "mosque" refers to all kinds of constructions which are devoted for Islamic worship. But in Arabic, there is a difference between privately owned, small mosques and collective, large mosques which have more social and community amenities. Importance of Mosques A mosque mainly serves the role of a place where Muslims can unite and pray. At present, mosques are not just known for their significance to the community of Muslims but also as a presentation of architecture of Islam in the whole world. Mosques have grown significantly from just being open air spaces which were the Masjid-al-Nawabi and Quba Mosque dating back to the 7th century. Now, mosques are constructions comprising of minarets, elaborate domes and prayer halls. Originally, mosques were just present in the Arabian Peninsula but now they exist on all the inhabited continents of the world. Mosque not only acts as a place for prayers and worships but also a place to learn about the religion of Islam and also gather with fellow believers. Compulsory Elements for a Mosque

• The most important thing is that all the mosques should point in the direction of Mecca, called as qibla. This direction is known as a mihrab in most of the mosques and is a niche in the wall.
• The area which is in front of mihrab must have a roof.
• The mihrab wall is supposed to have no doors whereas the other walls can have as many doors as one wants.
