Talking about Sikhism, it is the 5th largest religion in the whole world. Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak Dev and is based on the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and the nine other gurus. The term Sikhism sprang up from the word Sikh, which further came from the Sanskrit term Sisya i.e. a disciple. People following the religion of Sikhism are known as Sikh. There are around 23 million Sikhs all over the world. Sikh visits the Gurudwaras, which are a place of worship for the Sikh people.

All these journeys overtaken by the Sikhs in order to visit the holy sites is termed as Sikh pilgrimage. Various pilgrimages are organized by Sikh people from time to time. All these Sikh pilgrimages are undertaken in a certain part of the year. The Sikh pilgrimages may be performed through various means like vehicles, horses or even walking.

Sikh Pilgrimages in India
India is the base of the Sikhism and the state of Punjab is full of Sikhs. There are various places all over India that are frequently visited by people from all around the globe. Some of the chief places are listed below.
- Golden Temple (Amritsar) -
It is the chief pilgrimage place of the Sikh people and is situated in the city of Amritsar. It is also known as Darbar Sahib or Sri Harmandir Sahib and is the symbol of glory of the Sikh community. One can wash away his/her sins by having a dip in the holy waters of The Golden Temple.
- Hemkund Sahib-
It is located near the Lokpal lake and it is believed that Guru Gobind Singh meditated here near the lake.
- Anandpur Sahib-
It is the 2nd most important pilgrimage place of the Sikhs. It was founded by Guru Teg Bahadur Ji.
In addition, there are various other Sikh pilgrimage places like Damdama Sahib, Patna Sahib, Manikaran, Poanta Sahib and many more.
Sikh Pilgrimages in Pakistan
There are various important Sikh pilgrimage sites in Pakistan too. They are Nankana Sahib, Panja Sahib, and Dehra Sahib Etc. Nanakana Sahib is the most important as it is the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev.

Hemkund Sahib Gurdwara
Situated 4000 metres above sea level and surrounded by snow-capped mountains Hemkunt Sahib one the most holiest shrines of the Sikhs gives it a mesmerising look. The lake’s rocky shores are covered by snow most of the times.

Sis Ganj Gurdwara
Built in old Delhi this gurdwara is dedicated to the ninth Sikh guru Guru Teg Bahadur who was beheaded on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in the year 1675 A.D.

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib
Dedicated to the 8Th Sikh Guru, Guru Harkishan Sahib Ji, gurudwara Bangla Sahib is located in Cannaught Place in New Delhi. Its main hall is kept simple, except for the open central shrine, covered by a small golden dome sporting a sculpted bronze cupola.

Golden Temple
Established by the Fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Das Ji, the Golden Temple or Harmandir Sahib is the most important place of worship for the Sikhs and the oldest one. The city of Amritsar is also called “Guru Di Nagri” or the city of Guru.
